Smiley Slightly tricky because cannot duplicate on my end what you are seeing.

looked at binaries of transfer negotiation w/ MSW and indeed,  technical MS unicode specs were not met.  Fixed that...

perhaps..  Smiley  now ?....

try with CLEAN word session (make sure word totally closed & not in process list)  and try again..

try with data (Smiley)

make sure try with default codepage.

if not work,  then,

try again CLEAN word with -1 codepage

and if *that* not work,

with again Clean (fresh Word)  try again -2 as codepage.

let me know!

>>Slightly tricky because cannot duplicate on my end what you are seeing.
Are you using the same setup: Win XP SP2; Word 2003; Asian Language support installed...?

Tried v1.40B:

>> try with CLEAN word session (make sure word totally closed & not in process list)  and try again..

OK. All test with clean Word. Just discovered why the 2 computers behaved differently: Comp1 was running Outlook w. Word as editor, so word was never completely closed when closing Word. When I closed Outlook, the two computers behaves the same: First merge is OK (no Conversion window). Second Merge always cause the Conversion Window. Closing/reopening Word resets it.

>> try with data
I always have a Company value in Ecco (NetManage).

>>make sure try with default codepage.
I then get the conversion window after 2nd merge. Default => Other/Unicode Conversion Window

>>if not work,  then,  try again CLEAN word with -1 codepage
I then get the conversion window after 2nd merge. Codepage -1 => Windows Default Conversion Window

 >> and if *that* not work, with again Clean (fresh Word)  try again -2 as codepage.
I then get the conversion window after 2nd merge. Codepage -2 => Windows Default Conversion Window

indeed,  Word 97, 2000, XP, 2007 have I to test,

but 2003 to test have I not.....

(if that is indeed relevant).

have updated.

try latest,

but with MULTIPLE items.

also try (if that doesn't work)  to include the ItemText field.

Try as letter and as report..

if this all fails,

please send me the magicMerge EXE that works (try on it all same tests)...  so I can see exactly what we are talking about....

send me a .doc you tried to merge from as template as well....

Attached the magicMerge.exe that works (doesn't give the conversion window on 2nd merge) and the latest Word template used for testing.

trying to debug,

try latest vers. 1.42B

also resend me .doc file (got link in zip, not actual file)...

*any* difference ?

(also try 1.31B [attached to this post]  and confirm it does not work.  ie.  have assumed that was not,  but since untested,  let's confirm).

No change. Still get the conversion window.
btw, I assume default codepage = codepage 0?

Furthermore codepage  -2 gives incorrect data in the merge:
ItemText: EM2
Company: EM3

yes,

-2 uses preformatted test data.

since you're getting an the conversion window with PREFORMATTED data,

the issue is not a 'data contents' issue.

(if that makes sense).

and, yes,

default codepage = 0

just to confirm,  -2 in your test caused the conversion dialog on 2nd merge, right ?

does exist & restart MagicMerge between merges make any difference...

ie.  does it still cause conversion dialog on 2nd merge (even on MM restart ?)

1.43B; Default Codpage

Only closing/reopening MM after 1st merge, but word open all the time
=> conversion dialogue on 2nd merge.

ok...

(just with default codepage),

try,  and confirm:

dialog on 2nd merge even if merge from 2 different files ?

also,

1. word is closed.

2. MMerge default phonebook (entire)  to the .doc you sent me previously.

3. when merge is done you only have ONE word window (with merge results) ?

then:

'reboot word'.

1. copy the .doc test file & rename.

2. if you run merge to original name,  then to new name,  you get dialog on second merge-- ie. first merge to second name ?

>> A. try,  and confirm:  dialog on 2nd merge even if merge from 2 different files ?
Made copy of orig file MM_test2.doc
1. Open MM_test.doc
2. Merge
3. Close new merged file
4. Open MM_test2.doc
5. Close MM_test.doc
6. Merge => Conversion window

>> B. also, 1. word is closed.; 2. MMerge default phonebook (entire)  to the .doc you sent me previously.; 3. when merge is done you only have ONE word window (with merge results) ?

1. Close Word
2. MMerge to  MM_test.doc
=> Only ONE Word Window (with merged data)

>> C. then: 'reboot word'.; 1. copy the .doc test file & rename. ; 2. if you run merge to original name,  then to new name,  you get dialog on second merge-- ie. first merge to second name ?

I do not understand. This is the same as the first test (A. above)?

OK.

Smiley  I think we've got it.

try latest. (.45B).

a bug in deeper code *hid* a simple procedure bug with word connection.

was able (to some extent, anyhow)  duplicate the dialog popup, and... (at least in my tests on w2000) cure it.

CLOSE WORD!! (before testing new vers.)

try with default codepage.  (-1 if that for some reason not work).
