Try copying CTL3D32.dll to your ecco directory. Mine is C:\Program Files (x86)\ECCO. I did that and it worked initially, now it flashes the splash screen and the ecco window never shows. Still running in the background.

Actually, why couldn't I just reinstall Ecco from my original way-old CD?

I got ECCO here years ago.  I had it on my first computer, with Windows 95, but when I got this new computer, with Windows 11, I don't know why but I couldn't install it (I still have the original install disk).  I just can't remember.

Anyway, I've used the Ecco from here just fine, for a few years now, but today I clicked to start it and I got

"The code execution cannot proceed because CTL3D32.dll was not found.  Reinstalling the program may fix this problem"

I searched in the C:\Windows folder and there is a copy of the file in

       C:\Windows\WinSxS\x86_microsoft-windows-ctl3d32_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.26100.1_no
ne_6afdf345044fc920

Is there supposed to be a copy of it somewhere else, that ECCO expects to find it?

And how would it go missing?  Is there anything I did that caused that (something I better not ever do again)?

I have used Ecco Pro for many years. I have a printing issue: when I print, a blank page is inserted after each page. Is there a setting that I've missed all this time? Thanks in advance.  Bill

Long time ecco pro user.  Purchased the original software from netmange in July of 1997.  The original software came with a 32 bit installer which does not work on Windows 10.  What I did not know is that you can copy all the files and folders from Ecco’s last install, which was located in C:\Program Files (x86)\ECCO to the new computer.  The Ecco program does not need an installer!  Just create a shortcut on the ecco32.exe file and start running the program.  The first time you run the program you may need to run it as administrator.  But after the first launch this is no longer required.

The next thing you need to do is replace the “Default.ect” file template which can cause Ecco Database Corruption.  This file goes in the root install directory or the C:\Program Files (x86)\ECCO directory.

Users can find this file by searching for “updated default.ect” in the forums search bar.

I have spent a lot of time browsing this forum and the “Groups.io” Ecco forum which I believe is the old Yahoo Groups forum.

Alulaq2,
Please forgive my delayed reply. I only check this site every couple weeks or so.
If you haven't found it yet, the solution that worked for me was to set the Ecco exe run permission 'as Administrator'.
I've seen the thread reference Registry permissions and my error was about running the exe but both are solved by Admin privileges.

Good Luck!

Hi rbwISE,

I've been hit with a windows update and now my previously running fine plain vanilla Ecco32.exe 4.01 (supposedly 64-bit) wont run. I get the message "Unhandled Registry Error (CFO)". Im on a 64bit Lenovo, and just installed Windows 10 update to W10 Build 1903. What do I need EXACTLY to get Ecco to run? Do I need 4.6.6 64bit wrapper? If so, where do I get it and how do I install it?
Is there a more recent Ecco, or do I need some extensions, or?

Alulaq2

While this thread is about 3 years old, a W10 update (most likely...), has struck again. But, Thankfully! (to all involved in this Q&A ), Updating the Properties as recommended solved the problem ('Unable to run command' when running Ecco).

I'm running the 4.01 (32bit) under the 4.6.6 64bit wrapper; on a W10 21H2 Build 19044.2728 w/ 64 Gb RAM. This workstation (Alienware M51 laptop) is my base analysis & data processing machine but I synchronize to a Dell XPS-15 that is the mobile tool.
It's all worked pretty well with the workload at about 9:1 on the M51 to the XPS. I haven't added much but Magic to the EccoPro setup and until this event, haven't had any trouble. I migrated an InfoSelect database to Ecco around 1993 or '92. Nothing was as nimble as InfoSelect but Ecco was flexible enough to adapt. The calendar and project timekeeping functions added so much, I've never looked back.
