I may have missed something in the use of the Color folder but in implementing it here are a couple of observations that affect its usefulness:

When it is set up as soon as the last leter is typed it is no longer possible to make changes.  The deault folder type in ecco is checkmark and therefore the color folder will be a checkmark and not a number folder which cannot be changed.  To overcome this problem it is necessary to create a new folder, set the type to number, then type in the name of the folder (in this case Color).

There is also no way to delete this folder once it has been created.  If an error was made in its set up then there is no way to fx the problem after the fact that I am aware of (changing the folder type specifically).

Migh I suggest a fix is to force the folder type to be changed from chckmark to number when it is created (the last letter is typed).

With *ANY* folder,  if any item has folder data,  you can't change the folder type...

if you turn off auto-assign rules,

can you then delete the folder,  perhaps ?

[likely not the problem...]

if you totally empty a folder (including color) you often need to double click on it (to open it in the scratch view) before you can regain rights to change the type.

(and obviously, can allways be deleted in non-ext ecco)

Nope, does not work.  The folder is empty but refuses to be deleted.  Opened in ecco , made sure there was nothing in the folder and type could not be changed nor could it be deleted.  This was true for both of the color folders (Color and Color85).

I willtry it on another file though as the one I used I think is corrupted for some reason.  I have posted this on the yahoo newsgroup.

if you double click on folder,

it opens in scratch pad with NO items,

and then you try to delete it,

and it still will not delete ?

(if yes,  attach example file for me to look at..)

I just noticed something, though I will send you the file as well before I edit it, that though the color85 has no values when I double click on it the itme count is the same as color.

I will delete the items from color and then see if the color85 can be deleted.  Attached though is the file for your use.

This is the same fiole by the way that crashed when I try to do the eccoext options, see the yahoo web site for that error discussion.

Okay, now how do I attach a file to this message??  Tried to drag and drop and looked for button?

Either Edit your message or start a new one...

(You can *now* attach files).

and, BTW:

there indeed is  a problem with the 'protection' applied to the Color folder once created.  It is affecting other 'color' folders...

hopefuly SlangMGH will have time to fix that.

there is,  however,

an easy solution  Smiley

I modified the prior message and attached the file to it.  It is a corrupt file, see the ecco_pro thread, but the problem does not change the color folders are not removable.  One thing I did notice is that after recovery the second color folder name became color81.
