Title: Windows 7
Post by Bernster on 06/08/09 at 08:25:39

Just upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista and am getting can't write to file, cause unknown error when I try to close out of program.  Also can't close program except by stopping process in task manager.  Ecco works fine on another Win 7 PC.  Any ideas?

sounds like a permissions issue,  particularly with the ecco systems files (ecco.*)  in the windows root \Windows  or as the case may be.  (tool in eccotools board may help locate if not clear where).

with ecco off try to rename them all and then start ecco.

ps:  Win 7  *is* Vista,

issue most likely relates to the reinstall/upgrade.

Thanks
Adjusted permissions and reinstalled ECCO and now it is working fine.

I am confused - not unusual. Windows 7 = Vista? Really? I thought there was a way out of Vista coming. And what permissions does one have to adjust? And how? Thanks.

1. Yes,  Win 7 = Mohabi = Vista

2. one 'user' can't modify system file created by another "user".   Relevant here only with 'upgrade' from Vista to Win 7 where inadvertently the "user" changes.

Thanks - so Windows 7 is just a MS scam? darn. I bought advance copies from Amazon.

well,  at least effect MS marketing.

Vista, called Win 7 or whatever,  is a mess.   Many of the add-ons here must literally SLOW THEMSELVES DOWN in order to work in vista.  (To me that is insane).

Also,  the problematic 'security' issues were bypassed by a no-longer secret back door that MS programs used to bypass.   Now,  virus etc., can use same back door,  so all that is left is headache and annoyance for legit programs,  and many not working progs etc....

[edit]on the upside,  MS invested in the marketing and so vista/win7  LOOKS very cool.[/edit]
