Technical background:
In order for Caller ID to work with ECCO you must have these two ingredients:
A modem that is both TAPI and Caller ID Enabled.
The Caller ID Service on your phone line
Determining if you have a Caller ID-TAPI Enabled Modem
Step 1 Finding your modems comm port
From Control Panel, Choose the Modems applet
Select your modem, and choose Properties
Note which Comm Port your modem is using, and exit.
Step 2 Discovering if your modem is Caller ID Enabled
From Start Menu, Choose, Programs, Accessories, HyperTerminal
Run Hypertrm.exe
Provide a Connection Description "test", Choose OK, and Cancel out of the Phone Number Dialog.
In test - HyperTerminal's File menu, choose Properties.
From the Connect Using drop down, choose your modems comm port (See Step 1)
Direct to Comm 3 (for example)
Choose OK
Type the following:
at#cid=1
Press Enter on your Keyboard.
Response should be "OK " If it says anything else you do not have a Caller ID modem.
Step 3 Verify you have Caller ID on the line
To verify you have Caller ID on the line, keep HyperTerminal open and dial the number from another line, to your Caller ID line. If you do not have two lines at your disposal, you will have to have a friend dial your number.
You should see something like:
Ring
Date=0723
Time=1654
NMBR=2068850559
Ring
If so you have a Caller ID enabled modem, with the Caller ID Service on the line.
Step 4 Determine if your modem is TAPI Enabled
Look at your modem's manual or.. contact your modem manufacturer and ask them if you modem is TAPI enabled....
