Title: Windows 7
Post by Morgan on 01/19/10 at 09:36:22

I just upgraded to Win7, and did a clean install.  I know Win7 "is" Vista, but mine seems confused. So. When I try to install EccoPro, I get a general protection fault.

Does anyone have info on how to get it loaded.  Like most of you probably, I have a ton of data on Ecco, and am not about to give it up without a fight.
Thanks,
Morgan

32 or 64 bit Win 7 ?

also the single directly (FREE) install should work fine for you.  See eccotools.com board.

32 bit. I was hoping it would be simple. Still looking for a way around the GPF I mentioned.

if you unzip the single directory install into a directory,

set ecco32.exe to run with admin rights,

and then run it,

does it work for you ?

I'll try it this weekend. Thanks.

Did it and it worked!  Took me about an hour to figure where the unzipped files went... it didn't give clear indication. But. Many thanks. Huge obstacle overcome toward a functioning Win7.

I'm in the same boat.  Upgrade to Win7, 64bit, installed EccoPro 64, all worked fine . . . until I tried to print.  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, modified Properties, but no luck.

Can anyone help point me in the right direction of how to get Ecco to print.  I love the program, have used it forever.???

Installed  "EccoPro 64"  ??

Title: Re: Windows 7
Post by 42Ken on 05/13/10 at 06:25:04

Yes, this install is available from Compusol's web site.  I downloaded and installed it with no difficulty.  I also tried other installs, (EccoPro_4.01_UpdatedInstall) but all have the same problem . . . Print . . . the printer responds, paper is loaded . . .  then I get an error message that "printing failed or was canceled"   I have set the ecco32.exe program to run as the administrator, but this does not seem to help.

I'm really perplexed and do not want to give up on Ecco.  I have lots of data in the program and have used the program for at least 20 years.

Reinstall ecco with the single directory install from the eccotools.com board.

Then open a new file.

Assign default printer,   and then try to print (from the new file).

let me know how that went.

I have tried numerous attempts to solve problem. . . run as administrative . . . run in XP, VISTA . . . print a different file . . .  single folder setup . . .  uninstall, reinstall, use different install programs . . . still no results.  I'd love to know a solution.  I'm thinking I may go to Yahoo and pay someone to solve the problem.

Please let me know if you solve this problem.  I have used Ecco for 20 years and do not want to part with it.

1. in that case, sure won't turn down your money for helping you resolve the issue...

1b.  Compusol says they will give you free, personal assistance-- that you can call them on the phone and get help,  if you paid the $10 for the software.  That's a pretty good deal-- don't think you can beat the price!

2. (if that doesn't work) how about you try... exit ecco and install the EM singe directory install.   (The 'compusol' install has known corruption issues, including the printer issue.) [part of the problem is the compusol install is not really an install,  it does not actually check your printer drivers or update ecco accordingly. It is just placing a copy of ecco which was installed on another computer on your computer,  this often creates not so happy results. ]

To debug issue,  easiest is to start with known working setup and go from there.

Install the EM single directory install (it is free)  and open a NEW file and try to print.

if not work,  try to set the default printer,  and retry.

report back with specific result.

if error message,  report back *specific* messages you get.

Title: Printing failed
Post by 42Ken on 05/21/10 at 14:24:44

In addition to my other notes,  after I get the "printing failed or was canceled"  the ecco menu changes to a different/larger font, and is distored, making it difficult to read.  I tried a different printer, and got the same results.

I hope you can help me solve this mystery.

Ken

did you:

re-install the EM single directory install (it is free)  and open a NEW file and try to print.

if not work,  try to set the default printer,  and retry.

report back with specific result.

if error message,  report back *specific* messages you get.

I ran thru the set up again by deleting the folder C:\Program Files(x86) . . . the I

1. ran "pre-release Manual Install 001" to get the folder items
2. copied "EccoPro" folder to c:\Program Files(x86)
3. copied "EccoPro" registration file to c:\Program Files(x86)
4. ran "EccoPro" registration file to add entries to registry
5. ran "ecco32"
6. checked 'File' > 'Printer Setup'  OK
7. ran 'File' > 'Print' to print out the default data file
8. returned error message "Printer Failed or was Canceled"

I did notice that my old data file gets moved to a different location after I move it to c:\Program Files(x86)???  I searched for it, but it does not appear.  I thought maybe Win7 moved it to c:\User\Ken\AppData, but it does not appear to be there.  I do not have hidden files????  I'm confused by the process.  Any ideas will be appreciated.

what happens when you just try to install ecco normally,  from the original setup32.exe install ?

also did you set the default printer in ecco ?

also can you print to pdf driver like (freeware)  dopdf ?

Title: Re: Windows 7 - font & color display,
Post by Morgan on 04/28/13 at 09:50:18

Hello,
I just realized I had messages.  No email alert.  Thanks for the reply.
I don't have any problem printing.  The "font consistency" I'm looking for is in how Ecco displays on-screen.

I'm still looking for a solution for 'open fields'...   Previously when I clicked the blank search field, it showed my entire data base, unexpanded.  Now entries are open, or the ones I've accessed in past sessions are open.  I want them all closed.  I want to open them when I'm ready.  Too clutered otherwise.

Also, what is 'ADT'?  And, I've looked but can't find it...  where is the  "EM single directory", install file?

I'm still looking for a way to have better control over Ecco's colors.  I can change the over-all color, but it's not working with the lettering, the entry I've identified.  Is there a simple, clear way to do this?

I've successfully installed it on Win 10 and it is working fine. No problem with printing as well. If you face any problem, try the "Compatibility Mode" in Properties.

You are right. The software engineer can solve the problem easily because of good experience or you can search on youtube.
